Oh one big positive for the club tongiht though was that it was our first every sell out at Cardiff Bay

Big Kudos to our new management team who have worked really hard to get the punters in.

Agreed, Well done.... although could it be that there were lots of Freebies given out to ensure that the first league home game under new management was a sell out?

Or maybe a return of fans who didn't want to support whilst it was being run by the Phillips family?

Great bounce back from our guys, and it sounds like we stuck up for ourselves when Vother started his strop!

The only freebies i am aware of were the ones from the echo and Red Dragon (radio station) competitions. which amounted to less than 10.

I know that this morning there was a 20 minute queue on the phone to book tickets for tongihts game so it seems there was a very big chance most of them paid, yesterday a group of volounteers and our mascot went into the centere of cardiff with flyers and a general chit chat session to grab the shoppers and the international football fans. WE have also had our Community foundation do a full marketting week in the run up to this weeks games. Make no mistake Matt Burge doesnt just dish out money to hockey teams that need it  he's serious about building this club up again and a sell out tongiht is the start of that.

Basically the Steelers deserved the two points tongiht, although imo the Devils were woeful, inept whatever you want to call it we just were not at the races this evening.

Steelers in all honesty were not much better than average but then they werent poor either. Talbot had two beauties to his name to seal the game but other than that there were no chances of note for either side. If jody was shakey last night he must be thanking his lucky stars he came to cardiff the night after as our forwards just didnt trouble him. Hinks who i was really looking forward to seeing looked like he didnt know what to do, or care that he had to try and work it out. The Devils did put the effort in but it just seemed like there was no chemistry there.

For the steelers a few notes of a few players, it didnt look like finnerty was skating fluidly and looked like he had a knock and young dowd hurt his arm in the third and didnt return and looked in a lot of pain from where i was sitting. hope its nothing serious as he is a great young talent and was impressive again tonight, he never takes a shift off.

Steelers also looked ok defensively but again its hard when they werent challenged as much as they should have been.

as for the fights well i think Voth and maciver as captain and assistant captain respectfully had their pride hurt tongiht and degenais and sarich got in the way, yeah its low and yeah we threw our toys out of the pram as a previous posted mentioned. But to be honest im at least glad they showed that they cared in some way. Sharp had to be held back by matsos on the bench when the two fights (which maciver and voth won easily as you would expect) but then the next shift matsos sent him out and Hartwick took up the challenge, nothing fight really, hartwick isnt a fighter and it showed as he was flailing around and they soon landed on the floor. Sharp then tried to carry on but the linos did well to hold him back. then he did his theatrics and then we all went home

Both teams need to improve by next weekend though

There was a decent sized queue waiting for doors to open to buy tickets this afternoon.

I enjoyed the game. I thought we played okay - we did the simple stuff right and didn't make too many silly mistakes IMO. Goals were nice, and well taken. Jody looked pretty solid tonight. Not world beating performance, but you can only beat what's in front of you and we did that well.

Voth's slash was entirely unnecessary and, unlike some penalties, served no purpose whatsoever. Personally I'd have kept Sharp away from it at the end. There was 10 seconds left and yet another fight in the final minute wasn't necessary. I've defended fighting in hockey many times, it has it's place, but I'm not sure fighting just for the sake of it really helps the image of the sport...

Still, 2 points in the bag, a decent performance, and a shut out. Oh, and no traffic on the M5 which made the journey back all the better 8)

Maybe as they were losing late in the game, they just wanted to give a bit of a show to their VIP ( http://www.eliteleague.co.uk/news/detail.php?id=6109), and the members of the press that he and his entourage would be followed by

quick question. Was the injury to Dowd from a slash or just an accident? Do we have any more news on the injury?

I was one of the ppl on about Jodi last night.I am not afraid to say so. Last night he was poor. I asked then if we could have the play off jodi back and it looks like he may have turned up. I hope he played well and not as has been mentioned that he devils forwards were poor.

The only problem i have with Jodi is that some games he doesnt seem to be there and others he is outstanding. I would settle for some middle ground where he was just great all the time..lol

Hopefully the injury to Dowd is only minor and he willbe back soon as i think he has a lot of potential.

Well done lads.

I.

I didnt see what happened to him but one minute i saw him skating i looked to folow the puck and the next thing i knew i saw Dowd skating to the bench clutching his arm. I asssume it was some freak injury as no one batted an eyelid only the doctor on the bench. It certainly didnt happen in any sort of coming together or anything.

Just made it home from Wales and I’m glad to say it was a journey worth making. We played a good road game and to be truthful i never thought Cardiff threatened our net seriously. Randy had a great game defensively and was in the right positions at all the right times tonight. I thought Basiuk had a bit of a shaky game, a few stray passes and wrong decisions made but nothing that turned out to be costly and he still looked very dangerous from the point on the powerplay.

Joey took his goals very well especially the second ripping it top shelf left Aubry no chance really. Cardiff played very physical finished all there checks and the boys will know that they have had to work to earn there 2 points. I don’t think Cardiff will lose that many games at home this season there a very big team in a small rink and they will be very hard to break down, i see alot of one goal games at the bay this season.

The arena was not as bad as i was expecting and would happily make the trip again, the people seemed friendly and it was a great atmosphere with the devils fans really getting behind there team. Good entrance as well really liked the flames on the ice and everything!

Steelers number one villain Voth didn’t fail to live up to his tag taking a swipe at Randy but respect to randy for not backing down and taking him on i thought that fight was never going to end neither player was willing to back down and respect to Sarich for sticking up for the team aswell fighting with McIver. I know alot of fans were unsure about this team toughness we hear alot about but i really do think all the guys have brought into this and are willing to do what it takes for the team. Sharp was itching to get in on the action and got the crowd going, i know he may not be a brilliant hockey player but the guy is definetly a character and the elite league is crying out for guys like him, Voth, Payette etc it makes the game exciting and gets the fans involved.

By the way rob dowd did ice again after his injury he played the last powerplay with finner and phillips so i dont think the injury was anything serious which is good news cause Dowd is playing fantastic at the moment has settled in perfectly.

You make a very valid point regarding the "Jody Knockers". As far as I am aware, and I am one, it is his inconsistency that people see as his greatest downfall.

Well done for "highlighting" this fact.

Well I made it down to Cardiff (all be it not till second period lol, well i didnt decide to go till 4)

Anyway i seem to have missed the scrappy messy period and got there in time for the action.

Got to say last night was a much better performance however still got a couple of concerns. Both goals were absolute rockets by Joey, however the shots on goal tally still seemed to be overinflated by scrappy shots from blue line.

I was told this rink was the same as Manchester but luckily I got standing tickets so was able to stand at the top of the ice and have a cracking view.

Dowd Injury he seemed to just take a knock bit of ice and he came back on in last few minutes, in terms of fights it got to 3-4 mins left and obviously Cardiff decided they would at least give the fans entertainment. Randy really didnt have much choice with Voth, got to give to Voth but to give Randy his dues he didnt back down and gave a good go.

I didnt see Voth Hit Rndy in back of head but was at other end of rink. Way mattie was going mad on bench knew something had happned !!!!!

Sharpe, you have to give him credit at least he will be total comedy value if nothing else.

One thing I will say is maybe its age or an Injury but Voth looked shocking last night, struggled with skating, passing, shooting infact hockey in general. In terms of gooning it up he isnt one of my favourites but has always looked quite sharp. Maybe its just an over indulgent summer.

One thing will say is some of the Cardiff staff did ruin the experience slightly by being extremely rude to me.

Much better performance but if we want any hope of beating coventry then all i can say is must do better O)
monday is rubbish way to spend 1/7th of your life...
