It quite honestly was the final straw in this case. I try to keep it tight as far as abuse and swearing etc is concerned as this is a family forum , and those who transgress are the easiest to deal with and to be fair it doesnt happen very often. The problem of posters ridiculing others opinions is harder to deal with as it can be difficult to point to them and say " you've broken that rule " , however they have a significant effect in discouraging some users to post because they dont want to get ridiculed. This thread was a prime example , lighthearted and harmless and yet it got slagged off by the usual suspects which is why I finally took some action. But what do you want from the forum ? , I can easily sit back and let this place become like lord of the flies as it has been getting recently or I can do something about it , which will probably result in people being banned unless they change their attitudes.

Couple of points...

Steelerdean...

You are either a relative newcomer to the world of forums or you inhabit some rather naieve ones....Yes folks get slated, yes folks start drivel threads (and get slated for it), yes folks have wee in jokes and conversations dragging things off topic on loads of threads on here..and they are'nt always 'the usual suspects' either.. If folks set themselves up as some kind of 'club within a club' then they will get slated...If folks come on here with somewhat naive and often silly questions they get slated..forums are places where you either grow a thick skin, get with the inherent humour of the place itself and like all communities have concurrently running dialogues both good and bad...its the real world...Most folks, despite slagging each other off on this and other forums carry respect for the opposite opinion generally spouted on here...whether they agree with it or not..you know that. I have had countless disagreements with the likes of Doom and co but he's somebody i allus look for to just say Owdooo to at games...
The ones that hide behind their keyboards are the ones that generally cause the real grief...the 'usual suspects' as you call em Dean are people who are well known at games around the UK and whoa re always willing to chat and cadge a pint off yer at games home and away...the ones that tend to whinge, the ones that really cause the grief...well, yer never see hide nor hair of their persoanl opinions..never mind their persons...
Word of advice to anybody who thinks they are being 'victimised'...Go and have a pint etc with those you see as doing so...yer never know what opinion you may come back with..

Mr O...

Carry on regardless..I dont think hitchy is losing any sleep over being banned for a while..i seem to remember Mr Morley banning him from one of the original Steelers forums...and he went on to create a Steelers forum that eclipsed tat forum and along with ITS set the benchmark for future forums, Steeler and non-Steeler..

Keep up the good work anyway..I may not agree with your actions (As many dint agree with mine and Hitchys during the H0S days) but yer do yer job as yer see fit...

To the rest...grow up, take the slagging, hand some back...and stop whining like wee girls and using yer self-percieved connections ..

Right..i'm off to sunny Alicante for a week...Adios.
Someday...thats just another word for 'never'.

This may seem like "creeping", but as I see it the moderation on here is very professional. I know when I have occasionally overstepped the mark. I am told in PMs, by e mail, on the forum, from the office and at the Arena. And I edit accordingly.

Sometimes when I feel a tad "tender" regarding someones opinion of mine, I go and sit down for a couple of hours, have a coffee and then return to see that it may have been relevant and not critical.

The forum is a great avenue of different opinions and views, sometimes it changes my point of view (Voth's playing style), sometimes it does not (Jodie's return).

One thing it has done over the last 3 months is find me a new friend STEWART. Scary that though.

My final thought is that if I ever offend anyone, I would rather take a step back and apologise than compound the offense by further comments. I find that suits my character best.

Anyhow back on topic....

We haven't got our season ticket yet as we haven't applied for one this season, to be honest we could'nt justify the cost, with the rising cost of living, the belt is tightening for sure in the Slinn household, may consider a half season ticket though and will pick and choose the odd game until then.

A genuine question for you Daryl. How much influence did the standard of Hockey have on your decision?

To be totally honest Stewart, the standard of hockey did have a factor, paying out good money to watch hockey that should be entertaining for both young and old when in the end it appeared we were paying money to socialise with the people around who in most games got easily bored.
We were spoilt in the Super League era, but even so the standard of the Elite League apart from the NHL lockout season where the NHLers came over for a holiday is rapidly going down hill, that tied in again with cost of visiting the Arena, drinks, programme, raffle tickets etc and the overall state of the Arena for a family with young children was a major factor.

Must agree, it's starting to get tedious with certain posters.

You should make a spreadsheet with their names and the number of times per season they take a thread off topic ;)

ha ha thats quite funny actually.
How dare you make noise at a Hockey match! I just want to sit here filling in my game sheet, moaning about how much better it was back in the day, whilst glaring at anyone who tries to break the silence. Oooh i wonder if janice has brought her hob nobs.
