Quick message from Ben

Postby Nemesis » Fri Jul 30, 2010 6:14 pm

Not enough to do a write up so I thought I would just put the relevant points from the chat on here.

He is extremely excited to be coming and can't wait to get stuck in.

He is well aware of all the turmoil currently around the club and did extensive research and 'due diligence' prior to accepting the role. Although he appreciates there is an element of risk it is one he is prepared to take and stresses that he would NOT be moving his wife and kids half way around the world if he did not feel it was a sound decision.

He is happy with the current ownership and how he has been handled and the plans for the club.

He talked about the fact that clubs all around the world have had financial trouble leaving players to fend for themselves. This is a fact of life in the sport where there are always risks.

He has heard all about us and can' wait to show us what he can do in a new chapter in Steelers history. He is aware of our heritage and wants to cement himself in Steelers history.

He has called most of the players and got commitments about their return and while he accepts there is work to be done with a couple he is confident about the players concerned. Definite commitments were given to him by Rod, Thomas, Legue, Campbell, Clarke, Bolli, Dowd, Hewwy, and Ervins and work continues with the rest given that some are on holiday.

He is absolutely committed to putting the best possible product on the ice so we can get back to winning ways.

Thats it.

Good to finally read a bit of positivity, sounds like Ben is very enthusiastic about coming here, which I like more at the moment; given the summer that we've had, its good to see someone still so eager to come rather than read everything and be put off. Good to see a few names definately commit, hopefully some more will be added to that when Ben has had the chance to speak to them all. I think Munner will return based on what he said after being offered the player-coach role, but tilme will tell I guess...

It's good to read a bit more positive news, hopefully this will snowball and the remaining players will all commit.

I've never said this before, but I hope Bob W has got a fortnights holiday booked abroad. In the past when Bob has gone on holiday I've found the lack of hockey news in The Star a bit depressing, but this time I think a fortnight without his negativity would give the club a boost.

The more I'm reading from Ben the more I feel encouraged.....He may even sell Steelers hockey to Stewart once again.....Now there is a challenge.

No I've not forgotten Munn or Domish, I'm just more concerned that we retain our Brits. They would probably be harder to replace so close to the season.

Doom, this is not like you. You are usually the one that sees, evaluates and then gives an intelligent response.

It is irrelevant whether Bob W is on holiday or not, ever heard of the laptop. Don't start to shoot the messenger, because when the truth is finally told it will have to be handled face on by the individuals involved.

And the TRUTH will be told..

Stoopy, from past experience Bob's articles do usually dry up when he goes on holiday, I guess like all of us he does like to take some time off from his job.

The problem I have with Bob at the moment is that everything is VERY one sided.

We've just signed an 80 game NHL player as our new coach, that should be something to excite the supporters and give them something to look forward to watching. At the very least it's worthy of a few days articles in The Star and the odd headline, yet it's hardly had a mention.

Bob W clearly only wants to report negative news about the club and whenever something positive is released, he tries to counter it with another of his negative stories with lots of maybe, could be and possibles.

I've heard BOTH sides of the story and as far as I'm concerned I'm still sat on the fence.

If Bob Phillips wants to use money from the Steelers account for any of his other business ventures that's his business, as long as it's within the law it has nothing to do with me......Now here comes the crucial bit......As long as he honours my season ticket and provides me with a season of entertaining hockey.
