If our final forward is capable of 25+ goals then we won't be a million miles short of Coventry in goalscoring ability.

if we keep all our players and thats a big if

More words from our new coach.
Too late to get this on the site now so i will just put it on here.

:)

On the decision: “I am very excited to join the Sheffield Steelers as a player/coach for the upcoming season. There is a long tradition of winning here, and it made my decision much easier. Sheffield is and will continue to be one of the top tier teams in the EIHL. I have only heard great things about the town and the people, especially the fans"

On the team: “In the next couple days I will be contacting all of the players under contract for this upcoming season. From there, we will figure out the best course of action for the team going forward. One thing I will promise is that this team will give 100 percent every time they touch the ice, in practices and games.”

On Expectations: “This season we are going to be a fun team to watch. I want the fans in Sheffield to be excited when they come to the arena because they know it’s going to be a great game of hockey. Our goal is to win hockey games and we will take the necessary steps to achieve this goal”

On the situation in Sheffield: “It’s been a pleasure to work with the ownership in structuring my deal. Mr. Phillips has been very accommodating and I look forward to working with him. My focus is solely on hockey and preparing the best possible team for the upcoming season”

Press release ends.

When was the last time we had a player with a history as impressive as this? Over 500 games in the AHL and NHL. Never played lower than the ECHL/DEL.

I can't think of anyone since the Elite League started.

I personally don't know any of the players so I can't comment on what they're thinking.

If some are thinking of leaving let's hope Ben Simon can convince them to stay and give it a go.

We've had nothing but negatives for the last 2 months, for once I'd like to try and look for a positive.....Let's give the team our support and hope when the 1st puck is dropped there is a team on the ice worthy of the name Sheffield Steelers.

he seems like a quality signing, should hopefully have a good set of contacts. He's said all the right things in the press article so far.

As far as I'm concerned god luck to him, the club isn't going to be sold this season and a god start, hard hitting winning hockey and the crowds (most of anyway) wont care who is sat in the Owners box.

I'll be quite surprised if any of the players walk now. You don't get 81 games in the NHL without doing a lot of things right, personally i think its a great signing, credit where it is due, this was a good move by Bob P.

Stop that sort of positive thinking, it's not allowed.

Obviously the Brits would be a bigger problem, but apart from Tait I''m not sure the others would have much of an option now.

Yes, the Brits are obviously key so hopefully he'll be able to persuade them to stay.

Imports are replaceable and Simon will know players that are a lot better than the ones we currently have.
